DeVaughn Que Senegal Jr., affectionately and famously known as “DJ,” was born on September 23, 2000, to loving parents, LaShonda Humphrey and DeVaughn Que Senegal Sr. in Lancaster, California. He was the first born out of eight siblings. DJ graduated from Whitney Young High School in 2018. Following high school, he pursued a variety of careers, before ultimately finding his passion in wanting to become a truck driver. He even went as far as signing up to attend Swift Trucking School starting in January 2023.
DJ had a loving heart and a beautiful smile that would brighten up everyone’s lives. And we can’t forget about those amazing, genuine, tight hugs that felt like they could last forever. He was so full of LOVE, always trying to leave a positive impact on the people around him, in any way that he could. DJ had a unique way of making people laugh, he had a laugh that would get your attention and quite frankly, the loudest in the house. And just as fast as he could brighten up a room, he could clear one with that vicious gas! We all knew and oved our little DJ, special and peculiar as he was. From birth, he was allergic to just about EVERYTHING that we would and could feed him. He was different, but still grew to be a strong young warrior, a testament to his resilient spirit.
At four months old, the battle for his life began because his body wouldn’t digest food, leading him to the surgery room where he received a “G Tube” in his stomach. Nevertheless, nothing could hold DJ back from living his life to the fullest. Throughout his life, DJ always had a passion for writing and free styling. So much passion that in Jr. High School, for a school project he decided to write a poem, create a beat, and wrap for his classmates. His efforts earned him well deserved praise from his teacher and peers. Let’s not forget about his love for basketball and working out as well.
DJ took on life’s challenges, no matter how big or small, with the help of his faith, virtue, and strength of spirit, he tackled them without hesitation. For example, at the age of nineteen he endured self-rehabilitation and learned how to walk all over again because of a car accident that left him with a shattered pelvis. This is one of countless obstacles that he overcame during his full but brief life on this earth. It was not all bad, in 2021 after professing his love and dedication to our Creator, he was baptized at his Church Home, One Nation One Power Church of Christ in Arizona.
DJ: Trustworthy, Independent, Charismatic, Creative, Courageous, Compassionate, Gentle, Meek, Beautiful and Loving was he. The fruits of the Spirit that could never be altered or denied were ever present in him. He enjoyed spending so much time with his family and his friends that if you didn’t answer his call, you better be sure that a song or even a beat is being left on your voicemail. This is how he made sure you knew that he loves and misses you. DJ also enjoyed spending time with his grandparents listening to the oldies (but goodies).
On July 25, 2022, DeVaughn Que Senegal Jr. was called home to be with the Lord. He is survived by his amazing parents DeVaughn Que Sengal Sr. and LaShonda Humphrey, his brothers Dorion, Cassius, Caiden and Stefan, his sisters Da’Zani, Cassaya, Royalty and Chantel, his grandmothers, Shelonda, Denise and Kimberly, his grandfathers, Dwayne and Ladon and a host of aunties, uncles, cousins, other family, friends and loved ones.
