Carl M. Pickering Sr. was a caring father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He left this world suddenly on July 25, 2023, at the age of 74. As we gather to pay our final respects, we are reminded of the profound impact he had on our lives and the lives of those around him.
Born to Layard and Pearl Pickering, our father was preceded in death by his dear parents, his siblings Peggy, Bernice, Vernice, and Janice, his son Carl Jr., and great-grandchildren Kaden, Keeley, and Kegan.
To cherish his memory, Carl leaves behind his eleven remaining children, Roxanne, Caren, Carla, Cheryl, Vanessa, Claudia, Jonathan, Chris, Joshua, John & Charles, his favorite Aunt Enid, six siblings, Lynette, Derek, Verna, Cheryl, Roy, & David, his twenty-nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and an abundant number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and numerous friends.
In his youth, he accompanied his father on many trips. While on those trips, Carl developed relationships with even the most distant family relatives. Many of whom he stayed in contact with for the rest of his life. His connections, experiences, and deep understanding of family ties eventually made him the de-facto family historian.
As an avid fisherman, it was a personal badge of honor that his children owned a fishing pole at one point in their life. His other passions included kite flying, kite making, cooking, singing in the church choir, playing dominoes, and listening to Soca music.
Exceptional with his hands, he was also a master craftsman. He could fix anything, build a house from scratch, live off the land, and bring home dinner he caught himself. From 1988 until he retired in 2008, he maintained and supervised over 1600 units. His professions spoke to those gifts, he was a handyman, electrician, and superintendent at various locations. Naturally, he was also a member of a Masonic Lodge. The brotherhood he gained through the Masons, was one that he deeply cherished.
On behalf of the family, we want to acknowledge and thank his niece Faith, who was his primary caregiver for many years. Thank you for going above and beyond during his final years.
